Intro music: “Back To Us” by Jeremy Passion featuring Julissa Leilani

Hi friends 👋🏽

A Sunday Kind of Blog on a Sunday!

Who would’ve thought…

For today, I want to share a spiritual component of the Enneagram that is critical to using this framework for your personal and professional growth: The Holy Idea & Holy Virtue

Each Enneagram type has one of each!

I’ll break down what they are for each type in the future, but for now, I’ll share high-level what these mean and why they’re important.

I hope you enjoy!

The Enneagram is a complex system of personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. Central to the Enneagram are the concepts of Holy Ideas and Holy Virtues, each linked to one of the nine Enneagram types. Here's a breakdown:

1. What the Holy Idea and Holy Virtue are:

  • Holy Ideas: These are essentially the core spiritual truths or insights that each Enneagram type is believed to be seeking. Each type has a different Holy Idea that represents a particular aspect of spiritual wholeness or understanding.

  • Holy Virtues: They are the positive, spiritual qualities that arise naturally when a person is living in alignment with their Holy Idea. These virtues are seen as antidotes to the basic fears or desires that drive each Enneagram type.

2. Meaning to the Enneagram:

  • In the Enneagram system, Holy Ideas and Holy Virtues are central to personal and spiritual development. They provide a path for individuals to understand their deepest motivations and fears and to grow beyond them.

3. Origins:

  • The origins of the Enneagram are somewhat mysterious, with roots in various spiritual traditions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and ancient Greek philosophy. The concepts of Holy Ideas and Virtues have been integrated into the modern Enneagram framework, which has evolved over time. Oscar Ichazo, a Bolivian philosopher and teacher, is the one who is credited with languaging the Holy Ideas & Holy Virtues to the Western world.

5. Why They Should Be Considered:

  • Considering Holy Ideas and Virtues can lead to greater self-understanding and compassion for others. They encourage looking beyond surface behaviors to the deeper motivations that drive people.

  • They offer a spiritual dimension to the understanding of personality, which can be enriching for those who seek to integrate psychological insights with their spiritual beliefs.

With love,

Jomar
