Waiting for a Yes: What Business Acquisitions Teach You About Patience, Pressure, and Power
Behind every major deal is a season of waiting. Here’s what I learned while sitting in the unknown.
We had submitted everything to our lender.
A $2.4M acquisition was on the table.
We needed $1.65M in financing to make it happen.
So the bank scrutinized everything:
— Every financial document.
— Every proof of identity.
— Every piece of paper that said:
“I’m serious about this.”
We agreed to put our house down.
Our actual home, on the line.
They said it would take 30 days.
It took 60.
And so we sat…
in that in-between space.
The waiting.
The Questions That Creep In
In that liminal space, the questions swirl:
Is it even possible?
Will this actually work?
What if I’m wrong?
What if this is the biggest mistake I’ve ever made?
Waiting is brutal.
It’s where fear shows up uninvited.
Where doubt gets loud.
Where your nervous system spirals through every worst-case scenario it can imagine.
But here’s the thing about waiting:
If you sit with it long enough,
it starts to reveal something deeper.
This Isn’t Just About the Deal
In the quiet, I realized—
This isn’t just about getting a loan.
It’s not just about acquiring a business.
It’s not even about scaling wealth.
It’s about who I am becoming through it.
One of my old coaches once told me:
“How you do anything is how you do everything.”
That line hit different during this time.
Because how I handle this stretch—the waiting, the risk, the uncertainty—
says everything about the kind of man I’ll be on the other side of it.
This is the part where identity gets forged.
In the silence.
In the not-knowing.
In the choosing to stay grounded anyway.
Then It Happened…
We got the commitment letter from the bank.
It’s official.
After months of diligence, spreadsheets, scrutiny, and the emotional marathon of being “under review,” the bank agreed to finance 65% of the purchase.
It’s a huge milestone.
And yes, it feels amazing.
But more than the approval—it’s who I had to become while waiting that I’m most proud of.
In the midst of fear, I found courage.
In the midst of worry, I found wisdom.
In the midst of doubt, I found faith.
